Konya has been a very important city for carpet and rug making for several decades, and it is known as one of the carpet weaving centers of Turkey. Konya even served as a capital in the early ninth century, which caused a lot of cultural interactions to take place in this city. The city’s historical importance and cultural attraction reflecting on the carpet and rug making, it became an important source of unique kilims, which slowly gained more attraction from all over the world. The ancient Konya rugs were generally made in hearth size and was not much different from a prayer rug appearance wise. As time went on, the religious symbols were used less and the eye catching patterns of flowers and plants were used a lot more. Stripes were also a huge part of this rug type, almost being used in every rug. The colours were surprisingly limited and shades of red and black were the most used colours on Konya rugs.
