1940s Antique, Hand Wowen, All Wool, Turkish Kilim Rug, Sivas Kilim Rug (5'2"x 7'9")

Rugs are one of the defining aspects of Sivas, a city in the east of Turkey. People of this city have been making carpets and rugs since the arrival of the nomadic tribes from Middle Asia, who spread their culture, including making rugs and kilims, in the area. That is how Sivas rugs, in addition to their quality, have come to be popular across the world. Sivas rugs/kilims usually have rectangular shapes on them and include various interesting figures like plants and animals in addition to symbolic and geometrical patterns. The colors used in Sivas rugs are usually bright red, green, black, and orange as well as blue, brown, and white. These rugs can be made of wool completely, but the most recent ones are made of cotton. The knot these rugs have is extremely tight, which is an important feature that is often overlooked. Making Sivas rugs can be challenging and takes a lot of patience. Therefore, the number of  handmade Sivas rugs are decreasing.
