Konya has been a very important city for carpet- and rug-making for several decades, and it is known as one of the carpet weaving centers of Turkey. Konya even served as the capital in the early 9th century, which caused a lot of cultural interactions to take place in this city. The city’s historical importance and cultural attraction have reflected on its carpets and rugs. It became an important source of unique kilims, which slowly gained more attraction from all over the world. Ancient Konya rugs were generally made in hearth size and not much different from a prayer rug in terms of appearance. With time, less religious symbols and more eye-catching patterns of flowers and plants started to be used.  Stripes were also a huge part of this rug type, almost being used in every rug. The colors used were surprisingly limited and shades of red and black were the most used colors in Konya rugs.
