Rahrah soumaks are one of the most intriguing pieces of rugs made by Afshars. Afshars are a nomadic tribe who contributed to improve the carpet and rug making in several countries like Turkey and Iran and Rahrah soumaks are one of their most liked masterpieces. It is one of the highest quality contemporary rugs on the international market as of recently. Firstly, Soumak also spelled as Soumakh, Sumak, Sumac or Soumac, is a type of flat weave which is similar to kilim in many ways, the only noticable difference being the thickness of the weave. The name “Rah Rah” means “road road” in Kurdish, which mentions the patterns and design being in horizontal stripes. Rahrah soumaks consist of many different colours, some of them being dark red, indigo blue, black, brown, green and sometimes even yellow.
