Did you know that the first mermaid of the world was named Atargatis!

According to the legend, Atargatis was a goddess and gave birth to the Asyrian queen Semiramis. She falls in love with a mortal shepherd. Upon his death she throws herself in the sea to transform to a fish, but she was so beautiful so instead the sea turns her into a mermaid. Inspired by her story, Sandy Beach is our gift to the children who love the sea.

This rug is hand woven in Manisa, Turkey using hundred percent sheep’s wool and natural dyes with great admiration to the integrity of the Mediterranean.

Inspired by Atargatis our Sandy Beach tells a story from the Turkish Peninsula to the children who love the sea.
