Balya rugs are a form of rugs produced by a small group of nomads who lived in Balya’s villages and even smaller settlements. These nomads’ primary source of income was selling sheep and sheep related products and as they had many wool to make tools out of, they were greatly interested in carpet weaving. The carpets and rugs they made were mostly lost but fortunately some of them were preserved in coffers and were still useable. The symbols and the patterns used in Balya rugs, or Balya kilims, consists of various plants and animals, to give a few examples, apples and children were one of the most used figures in the rugs. The colours used in the rugs were light blue, orange, green, purple, yellow and pink.
