Dosemealti carpets has a lengthy history, dating back to the twelveth century. It is said that the Teke Yoruks who settled in Dosemealti which is located in the north of Antalya, not only gave their name to the region they lived in but also spread their culture among the people as well and that is how making carpets gradually became popular in that area.
Dosemelti carpets have very interesting characteristics. These carpets aren’t heavy at all, as Teke Yoruks are nomads who wanted the things they carry to be lighter. These carpets are commonly made with the colours red, blue, indigo blue, blood red, green, black and white. The oldest Dosemealti carpet ever to exist is reserved in the Antalya Museum today.
